Holter Monitoring – 24 Hours is a continuous heart rhythm recording test that monitors the electrical activity of the heart over a full 24-hour period. A small portable device, connected to electrodes placed on the chest, records every heartbeat while the patient carries out normal daily activities. This test helps detect irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias), unexplained palpitations, dizziness, fainting episodes, and evaluates the effectiveness of cardiac medications or pacemakers. It provides more detailed information than a standard ECG taken for a few seconds.
Preparation: Preparation for 24-hour Holter Monitoring is simple and does not require fasting. Patients are advised to wear loose, comfortable clothing to accommodate the monitor and electrodes. The chest area may need to be cleaned or lightly shaved to ensure proper electrode attachment. During the monitoring period, normal daily activities can be continued, but bathing, swimming, or showering should be avoided to keep the device dry. Patients are usually asked to maintain a diary noting symptoms, activities, and sleep times. After 24 hours, the device is removed and the recorded heart rhythm data is analyzed by the healthcare provider.
