About the test
Stress Echocardiography (Stress Echo) is a diagnostic heart test that evaluates how well the heart functions during physical stress. It combines an ultrasound examination of the heart (echocardiography) with exercise, usually on a treadmill or stationary bicycle. Images of the heart are taken before and immediately after exercise to assess heart muscle movement and blood flow. This test helps detect coronary artery disease, assess the severity of blockages, evaluate chest pain, and determine overall cardiac fitness. It is safe and performed under continuous medical supervision.
Preparation: Preparation for Stress Echocardiography usually includes fasting for about 3–4 hours before the test. Patients are advised to wear comfortable clothing and suitable walking shoes for exercise. Avoid caffeine, smoking, and heavy meals prior to the procedure. Certain heart medications, particularly beta-blockers, may need to be temporarily stopped if advised by your doctor.
